5 Preface Prof. Lee Cheng-ming is a professor and doctoral supervisor of College of Arts, National Taiwan Normal University, a member of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, and the chairman of Federation of Taiwan Tsai-Mo Artists, playing the double roles of an art worker and an art educator. He used to serve as the dean of College of Arts, the chairman of Department of Fine Arts, and the artist-in-residence of National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, and the visiting professor of Dongguk University, Korea, Nankai University, Tianjin, Hainan Normal University, and Ningbo University. His contribution to art education is evident, and his achievement in art creation is also well-recognized. He is a representative of the modern ink painting in Taiwan. His works used to win the first prize of Lion Art New Artist Award and the second place at Abstract Ink Painting Exhibition in Republic of China. He was also the winner of the ink painting group of Youth Artist Sponsor Foundation Award. Prof. Lee’s ink paintings are with the strong personal style and the unique performance, preserving and promoting the traditional ink painting and at the same time integrating the western modern civilization. Different from the elegant interest of the traditional literati painting, his creative works feature the nature and ecology of Taiwan, inspired by the modern living space and combining the concept of environmental protection and the concern for the local humanity to express an “ecologically correct” attitude. Our hall has been devoted to promoting cultural art and life aesthetics for long and continued to invite the artists with the important contribution in the art circle to hold exhibitions at Chungshan National Gallery of our hall. It is hoped that through the exhibition of the selected works of Prof. Lee, we can take a glimpse of his special feeling toward the land of Taiwan where he was born and brought up.
